Meeting in Iceland

One cloudy morning in August we left Tornio and started our trip to Akureyri, to Iceland. During the day we had to change plane two times, at Stocholm and at Reykjavik, but at last late in the evening we got there: in Iceland. We were very tired, but happy. The country was so different from any other place where I have been.

In our group there were four pupils from our secondary school and two pupils from upper secondary school, two teachers from our school and Kaija from Department of Education.

Our Hotell, Edda, was very good, but we didn’t spend so much time there. We wanted to see as much as possible there in Akureyri. In the evenings we had delicious dinners and after eating we walked down to the town and spent our time there. We took photos and talked with local people.

Every day we were at school and listened to the GLOBE protocols and school presentations. The lectures were so interesting that even they were in English, and we didn’t understand everything, we still wanted to hear what they said. I learned quite much about the GLOBE there, and now I can understand better the whole project.

The day when we made a sightseeing tour was the most interesting day there, I think. We saw so many amusing things and our guide told very much about Iceland and things that we saw. Hot-water lakes, water falls and different things about lava were best, in my opinion. Taking water samples was interesting and funny too.

The whole trip was very useful for me. I learned a lot of English and now I know much more about the Arctic GLOBE than before the trip. We also had very good time together at the daytime and also in the evenings. And now I know something more about Iceland too. I think I’m very lucky to have been able to visit Iceland, there in the middle of the Northern Atlantic.
